A comforting dish with browned ground beef, layered potatoes, and melted cheese baked to perfection in one pan.

# Ingredients:

→ Meat and Oils

01 - 450 grams ground beef
02 - 15 milliliters olive oil

→ Vegetables and Aromatics

03 - 1 medium onion, chopped
04 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
05 - 4 to 5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

→ Dairy and Broth

06 - 170 grams shredded cheddar cheese
07 - 50 grams grated Parmesan cheese
08 - 120 milliliters beef broth or water
09 - 60 milliliters milk (optional)

→ Seasonings

10 - 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
11 - 0.5 teaspoon paprika
12 - Salt and black pepper to taste

→ Garnish

13 - Fresh parsley (optional)

# Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 190°C. Grease a 23×33 cm baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
02 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat as needed.
03 - Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until onions are soft and translucent.
04 - Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Layer the thinly sliced potatoes over the beef. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
05 - Sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the potatoes. Pour beef broth or water around the edges to keep potatoes moist. Optionally drizzle milk on top for added creaminess.
06 - Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
07 - Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
08 - Sprinkle fresh parsley over the casserole if desired. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Thinly slice potatoes for even cooking and faster bake time.
02 - Browning the beef well and draining fat results in a leaner, richer flavor.
03 - Covering during baking traps moisture preventing dryness.
04 - Letting the casserole rest helps the layers set for easier serving.
